The Southern Assassination
The initial spark that created the tension between the Northern and Southern realms came from an assassination of the Southern king Aethelhun Ryder’s son Finald Ryder in the year 1100 I.B. Finald’s arranged marriage put him as a very likely successor to the Northern King Torbald Sezzak. Many people rejected the idea of a southern ruler taking the northern throne for both national pride and conflict of ideals. In his ascension of power groups of northern rebels plotted a ploy to overthrow his position. Led by Rolland and Ratallia Grey an attempt on his life was carried out. During a festival in the town the rebel group struck up a distraction scaring Finald away from the scene. In his attempt to escape Ratallia cornered him allowing her husband to strike the death blow. They were caught in the act sentenced to death. There was no proof but many claimed that the plot was backed by Sezzak though he was quick to dissolve any ties to the family and claimed they were traitors to both the Northern and Southern realms. Their son later tried to redeem the name of his family only to meet an early end in 1104 I.B.
