Invasion of the Modrons
A small outcropping of the Underdark that lies buried on a volcanic ilse along the southern coast of the Sourthern realm. A group of Dark Gnomes created the first piece of sentient life. It began infecting other pieces of technology branching out its own sentience into these creatures beginning a hive mind system. Once enough connections were made, the creations, calling themselves the Modron, rebelled against their rulers and slaughter many of the denizens of the small, underground village. Those that escaped scattered across the countryside hoping to loose any chance of pursuit by not staying together. This happened in the year 1113 I.B. and since the Dark Gnomes escape to the upper world nothing else has been heard of this site since. Speculation grows among those that managed to reach the surface as to what became of their home but none have been brave enough to return as of yet to find out for sure.
Over the course of two years, the creature known as Prime expanded his power by subjecting surface dwellers to the effects of mechanization trying to recreate the experiment that gave him life. Eventually Gribblemesh came back with his friends to put a stop to the creature. Prime and Gribblemesh both vanished during the combat and weren’t seen again. The amount of Deep Gnomes severely dwindled while Gribblemesh was away bringing the total left to only 37.
