Faramir is a lawful evil Oathbreaker Paladin that has had a bit of back and forth with his sense of self.

Backstory

Initially, Faramir was your usual unruly child of a powerful family of noble wood elves, and he was involved in the family business. He was one of the many drug dealers in his family’s large empire, and he usually handled the higher end deals, just a few rungs below the deals his father and brothers made. As time went on, he began using his own product and became dysfunctional within his family’s strict regimen.

His family had been trying to deal with his problems for months, when they encountered one of their own. Their largest drug deal of the decade (with a rival family, the Slammerfist dwarves, no less) went horribly south. In the end, the majority of the deal’s product on both sides was destroyed, and a large portion of the gold for the deal was also left behind. In the end, the other family got away without leaving evidence, while it was obvious that the Lannis family would not have that same luck. As a result, his father Darian orchestrated having Faramir drugged and left at the scene with plans that suggested he was running the deals on his own, with the local gangs. He was promptly arrested and held in jail, and his pleas to his family to help him make sense of it fell on deaf ears. Soon he was tried, and was sentenced to death in Camorr.

While in the prison of Camorr, a man visited him. It was a knight clad in black armor who claimed to be a holy paladin, and the knight offered him his life. He must forfeit it now, and swear an Oath of Vengeance on those who would do evil. Having no other option to escape his sentence, Faramir did so, and was allowed his freedom to join the knight’s order.

In the order, Faramir excelled at mental and physical tests, and even showed resolute faith, when learning holy spells. However, he was always carefree and ultimately didn’t take the ordeal seriously. He fell in love with a female elf named Anya, and was even preparing to abandon the order to go on the run with her to a new life. However, she wasn’t herself, and it was soon discovered that she had been whisked away by a local vampire. Faramir and his order tracked the beast down, but they were unable to slay it before it drained Anya and escaped in gaseous form. Faramir’s allies attempted to restore Anya’s life through their divine magic, but the spell failed, as black shadow beasts reached out of the earth and dragged her body away.

In his moment of ultimate defeat, he swore his true Oath of Vengeance against the shadow beasts that stole Anya, and on the wretched Lord Vorrick that had caused her death. He then fully devoted himself to his duties, and quickly excelled at them. He was sent out after a year of training, to spread hope for the weak and unleash vengeance on those who would oppress them.

Soon after, he met a curious gnome and formed a friendship.
